Evergreen Mennonite Church meets at the Northwest Arts Center in Bellevue. Worship includes music, scripture, prayer and a pastoral meditation. We strive to strengthen our personal relationships with God and to support each other within our faith community and beyond. Typical Sunday attendance is from 40 - 60 people.
Evergreen is committed to growing our faith through an active Sunday School program for preschoolers through adults. Sunday School meets weekly preceding worship. All ages are served and welcome!
Members are active in many service areas, including Mennonite Disaster Service, supporting the Mennonite camping program at Camp Camrec, supporting the Mennonite Voluntary Service program in Seattle with Seattle Mennonite Church, an annual drive to fill Mennonite Central Committee school kits, fundraising relief efforts for crises around the globe, as well as involvement with local service projects such as hosting meals for the homeless Tent City encampments on the Eastside and "Shoeboxes of Joy" for Eastside shut-ins.
Evergreen Mennonite Church began as an outgrowth of the Seattle Mennonite Church in 1991. Members living on the eastside of Lake Washington gathered to meet and plant a new church for those members geographically located in the area east of Seattle. The first service was held Sept. 24, 1991, at the "Little School" in Bellevue, when Andy Wade was called as the first pastor of the fledgling congregation. The congregation outgrew the Little School and on February 28, 1993 the "Charter" Sunday Service was held at the Northwest Community Center in Bellevue.
The Wades left EMC in June 1996 to pursue mission work in Hong Kong. Pastor
John Waltner was called to follow as EMC's second pastor in the fall of 1996, officially beginning his term in February 1997. John faithfully served as pastor for five years, ending his term in February 2002. Jeanne Rempel began her pastoral service in December 2002, and continues as the current pastor.
